See where your circle reads
Updated Oct 20, 2026
Share what you read lets the people you've approved as followers see which articles you have been reading, and shows you the same about them. It's off unless you turn it on, and if it's off for you, you don't see anyone else's reading either.
- Open Settings and turn on Share what you read.
- Read as usual. An article counts after you've spent 30 seconds on it. Recording works with Annotate extension 0.9.0 or later.
- Check What your circle sees about you in Settings any time.
What is shared, and what isn't:
- Only articles, and only the title, the site and a clean link to the article. People see "today", "yesterday" or "3 days ago", never a clock time.
- Records are kept for 30 days. Nothing from before you turned it on is shared.
- Never recorded: adult and 18+ sites, banking, money and investing, health and medical, email, chat and docs, dating, government services and job search sites, plus account pages (logins, checkout, carts, settings), search results and pages with a password field.
- Not shared across a block, in either direction.
Your controls:
- Hide this site and Hide this page in the rail stop a site or a page being recorded (Annotate extension 0.9.0 or later). Hidden sites are listed under Your hidden sites in Settings, where you can remove them.
- Your circle here in the rail shows which people you follow have read on the site you're on, and what they read (Annotate extension 0.9.0 or later).
- Pause for 1 hour stops recording for an hour.
- Clear my reading history deletes everything recorded so far. Turning Share what you read off deletes it too.
- Circle news by email will send a short note in your reminders and on Fridays at 8am your time, only when there's something new. Coming soon. It needs Share what you read to be on.
